Documenting Bodies: State Doctors and Human Rights in Turkey

Mandatory state hospital medical examination before and after detention is an important measure to prevent torture and promote human rights. Through ethnographic research in two state hospitals and interviews with state doctors who are undertaking these examinations, this project explores these documents in the making, and analyzes the political and practical consequences of these reports for documenting human rights violations, and citizens’ right to access to justice in Turkey.
